Resolution Updates

by Julie Fletcher

Well, so far I have gotten a third of the way through the cleaning and organizing. As for smoking, well…I am down from a full pack a day to around ten or so. It really depends on the stress level. Though something that has helped me each and every time I want a smoke is to look at the wall or window where I allow smoking.

We do not smoke inside of our home, smoking is only allowed in the back hall by the back door. If you are a smoker and do not plan on quitting, then please, please do not smoke around your children. Find a room or area your children do not enter and only allow smoking there. Tobacco smoke is does more damage to a child because they breathe faster than adults and can inhale more of it than us. The chemicals in smoke can do damage to a child that will last a lifetime.

If you would like to use a shock method to get you going in the right direction, take a cleaning wipe with you to an area where you smoke the most. Wipe it on the window or wall. See that yellow gunk on the wipe? You may need to scrub a bit, because this stuff is sticky. The more you scrub, the darker it will be. That, my smoking buddy, is tar. If that much gunk is on your wall, how much is in your lungs? Grosses me out each time I clean the windows out back. Scares me, too.

I have also taken to carrying a cigarette with me around the house. If I feel the urge to smoke, I can just put it in my lips and hold it. It calms the urge to smoke by fooling my brain into thinking I already am.

Do you have any stop smoking tips?
