I'm finding it very hard to step into these shoes, because I have been at the receiving end of this sort of hate so often. I look white to all who meet me. But I am a mix of several different heritages and races. In the rural south, where I grew up, racism was ever present. My oldest daughter's father is a complete racist and I lived with that for years. I just can't allow hate to run rampant here at FR, not hate of our fellow man. I think on this issue, though, that hate usually is a fear-based defense mechanism. I wouldn't consider people who hate to be unintelligent, just not tolerant of that which they don't understand. Some very very intelligent people hate with a passion. Hate, like love, can be very passionate. It means you care about what you're hating. It mean you care so much that it scares you. As compassionate lovers, we could maybe do better to respond being true to ourselves, not reflecting the others' unwillingness to drop defenses and seek understanding. Usually, antagonizing one who hates merely reinforces their internal fortress making it less likely for them to open up. Like Ron suggested, though it's hard, if we put ourselves in their shoes, maybe we can drop our hate of hate and understand them, expanding our community. If the child grows up to see it, who exaclty will compensate him for the use of his picture? Not to mention the damaging effects it will have on him! It still comes up 4th in google for images on Romania, that is just not right....in my opinion it should be removed, as many others have also stated... As an American married to a Romanian I can offer you some interesting perspective. I recognize that EVERY country, EVERY race, every corner of the world in fact, has it's own form of trash! People tend to deflect the recognition of their own peoples & countries faults by focusing on those of others far from their home. This helps them escape and evade their own brand of problems right in their own backyard. As an American married to a Romanian, I must tell you I would rather live in Romania these days! You see, they have universal healthcare, we don't! Romanians all enjoy paid maternity leave...we don't! They all get full pensions from the government that allow them to afford basic needs of life after retirement! We, if we're lucky will get a few hundred dollars a month to give straight to the nursing home we are doomed to die in. They don't even have nursing homes like we know.
