My Precious Kid:Teddy Bear Child Locator Review
by Julie Fletcher
My Precious Kid generously sent me a Teddy Bear Child Locator to try out. Unlike other locators I have thought about purchasing, this one combines function with a fun form. The Teddy Bear has been a security lovey for children for years, what better icon to use in a safety device?
I waited before writing a review. I felt that the device needed to be used more than once to provide you with the best information and opinion. I am very glad that I did wait.
As many who have read my posts or articles know, I have an autistic child (she‘s 7). My husband and I rarely go on outings with all four children at once, mainly because our special needs child may just decide to twist free of our hand. This is not always bad, often she will stay beside us. There are those heart stopping times when she just runs away.
Her dad and I do not always stay together when shopping, so it can be a nightmare. Feeling like a deer in headlights while trying to decide what to do- drag her sister along in a blind chase or maybe barrel down the aisles with the 2 month old and his 2 year old brother in the cart. Your heart pounds. Your eyes tear up. Each moment is a ‘what if?!’.
Just such a moment happened last week. Searching for a new green sweater, I lost her. This is not an easy task for her, as I hold on to her wrist and her 4 year old sister rats her out on every move. This time, I had let go of her wrist to hold the shirt up so she could see it, then put against her chest. In the second I turned to hang the shirt back on the rack, she was gone.
Just that morning the Teddy Bear Locator had been laced onto her boot. We had used it with her sister the day before. My heart did the familiar ‘drop into the stomach’ thing. Then I remembered the locator. Pushing the button before it was even all the way out of my pocket, my 4 year old chirps, “I hear her, Mommy!”
A few racks over, my 7 year old was inside of the clothes, feeling the different textures. Thanks to the loud ‘chhiiiirrruuup’ of the locator, it was a snap to find her.
The http://www.mypreciouskid.com/child-locator.html comes in two colors, brown and pink. I tried brown, it’s really cute on the front of a snow boot or top of a sneaker. Fits on belts, too. The locator is made of hard plastic and is water resistant, NOT waterproof.
The bear is 3 inches high and a bit over 2 inches wide. It emit’s a very loud chirp when the transmitter button is pushed. If the chirping stops, just push the button again.
This locator was also used in a CSI:Miami episode!
The purchase price is $29.99. It includes extended life batteries. 2 watch style and a ‘mini’ 12 volt.
Let me know if you own one of these or purchase one. I’d love to share your opinion or story. My Precious Kid is a great site with quick and friendly customer service. If you live in Oregon, check out their retail location:
