Dr. Michele Borba

Michele Borba, Ed.D. in an internationally-recognized educational consultant who has worked with more than half a million parents and teachers over the course of more than two decades. A dynamic and highly sought-after speaker, she has presented hundreds of keynote addresses and workshops throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the South Pacific on enhancing children's character development, self-esteem, achievement, and behavior. Her down-to-earth speaking style, inspirational stories, practical strategies, and solution-based ideas appeal to audiences worldwide.

As a recognized expert on parenting and character development, Dr. Borba has been a frequent guest on television and National Public Radio talk shows throughout North America including The View, ABC Home Show, The Jenny Jones Show, Fox's The Parent Table, Family Talk, Turning Point, To Your Health, The Parent's Journal, Canadian Parent Report, ETN, and Success Radio and served as an expert source to ABC 20/20, Arnold Shapiro Productions, and Sunburst documentaries. Borba is a contributing writer to two Chicken Soup for the Soul books and has been interviewed in numerous publications including Newsweek, Child Magazine, Working Mother, Parenting, Family Life, Parents Magazine, Better Homes & Gardens, Personal Excellence, First for Women, Redbook, New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune, and the LA Times.

Dr. Borba is an award-winning of over 36 books including Parents Do Make A Difference, selected by Child Magazine as "one of the most outstanding parenting books of the year," Self-Esteem: A Classroom Affair (over 125,000 sold), Staff Esteem Builders, winner of the NAEYC Director's Choice Award, and Esteem Builders, used by over 1,500,000 students worldwide and quoted in Newsweek as one of the most widely-used self-esteem curriculums. She has recorded seven audio and video programs, including The Five Building Blocks of Self-Esteem, Strengthening At-Risk Students' Achievement and Behavior, Working with Underachievers and Esteem Builders in Action.

Her numerous awards include the National Educator Award, presented by the National Council of Self-Esteem; Santa Clara University's Outstanding Alumna Award; and the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Educational Profession, presented by the Bureau of Education and Research and serves as the Honorary Chairperson for the Implementation of Self-Esteem in Hong Kong. She recently completed one of the most comprehensive research studies on the effect of implementing self-esteem program with 1040 elementary-aged students at three school sites. Results following one school year of using Esteem Builders by Dr. Borba revealed a 39% reduction in verbal aggression a 41% in physical aggression and 85% or more of all teachers reported significant gains in prosocial behaviors such as tolerance, respect, cooperation, and problem solving. 

Dr. Borba was formerly a classroom and college teacher and has had a wide range of teaching experience, including work in regular education as well as work with children with learning disabilities; children with physical, behavioral, and emotional disabilities; and gifted children. She and her husband were partners in a private practice for troubled children and adolescents in Campbell, California. She received her doctorate in educational psychology and counseling from the University of San Francisco, her M.A. in learning disabilities, and her B.A. from the University of Santa Clara; and earned a life teaching credential from San Jose State University. She currently lives in Palm Springs, California with her husband and three teenage sons.
