Dry Skin Care
- When you bathe, avoid long, hot showers or baths.
- Water should be warm and comfortable, and bathing should be limited to 5-10 minutes.
- Soaps can be very drying. Only mild soaps should be used, and these should be used only in the armpits, groin, and feet.
- Mild soaps include Dove, Basis, Eucerin, Oil of Olay Beauty Bar, and Purpose. If you find these too drying, try Cetaphil Cleanser.
- After you bathe or shower, while the skin is still damp, you may apply a prescribed medicated ointment to broken out areas. If you do not have a medicated ointment, skip this step and go to the next paragraph
- While the skin is still damp, a lubricating cream, lotion, or oil may be applied to the entire body surface. Suggestions include:
- Creams
- Eucerin cream
- Nivea cream
- Aquaphor
- Vaseline
- Cetaphil
- Lotions
- Lubriderm lotion
- Alpha Keri lotion
- Moisturel lotion
- Nutraderm lotion
- Cetaphil lotion
- Replenaderm
- Oils
- Lubath
- Neutrogena bath oil
- Johnson's baby oil
- Creams
If you have used a prescription medication, the lubricating cream or lotion should be applied over this medication. You may reuse the lubricating cream or lotion as often as you wish during the day.
Many people with sensitive skin are allergic to vitamin-E, aloe vera, jojoba, and unusual ingredients. If you have sensitive skin, you should avoid these products.
