Tea Boosts the Body’s Immune System
Dr. Jack Bukowski, through the Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences, reports that tea can boost the body's immune system up to five times its normal level. Unfortunately, you're going to have to drink a lot of tea each day to reap the benefits. The study suggests that a person needs to drink at least 5 cups a day for it to be effective. A person will also have to make sure they're drinking the right kind of tea, because the immunity boost only comes from a chemical found in black, green and oolong tea.
In time, the researchers hope to eventually create a drug that will help boost the body's defense system. However, for the time being, there is much more research that needs to be done on this newly isolated chemical. And only further large-scale studies will reveal if these new findings are as dramatic as they claim to be.
Boosting the immune system isn't the first major beneficial discovery related to tea. Jean Carper, of USA Today, lists several examples of how tea can benefit the body in her article, The Most Potent Health Drink Ever." Some of those benefits include:
- Saves Arteries
- Inhibits Cancer Growth
- Tames Inflammation
- Wipes Out Viruses
- Burns Calories
- Help Prevent Cavities
