Put the Spice back in your Life: Take a Spice Bath
By: Monika Mundell
There isn’t a better time to indulge the senses than in winter. When it is cold and bitter outside I love to rug up at home in comfortable clothes with a book, a hot chocolate and maybe even some rum punch.
So why not take it one step further with pure indulgence: a nice long soak in a spice bath.
To prepare for your spice bath you will need to shop ahead and buy some “supplies”. Alternatively you can raid your kitchen for related products and come up with your very own recipe for a spice bath.
Spice bath ingredients:
Slices of 2 oranges,
2 cinnamon sticks,
5 sprigs of fresh rosemary
2 cups of warm milk.
First prepare all the ingredients by slicing the lemons and the oranges. The cinnamon can be slightly crushed to release its flavors and the cloves, rosemary and milk should be used as is. Toss them all into a bath tub. Then proceed to fill the tub with how water. Make sure the water is as hot as you can comfortably manage to sit in.
The reason we use hot water is that this helps to release the flavors of the spices and fruit. The milk is an added bonus aimed at smoothing your skin. Cleopatra was known to bathe in a mix of pure milk and honey. Once the bath tub is filled to your liking you can sink back and enjoy the smell sensations.
Extra Spice Bath ingredients
If you really want to go to town you can place some nice smelling candles around your bath tub and switch off the main light. For absolute heaven enjoy a chili-hot chocolate and listen to some chill-out music. To get the most out of your spice bath make sure you are undisturbed for about an hour. You will emerge like a new born.
