When one thinks of albums designed to lullaby children to sleep, many would think of instrumental songs, or the sound of a woman's soothing voice. But for Lanny Sherwin, producer of the Dream With Me Tonight, Vol. 2 - A Father's Lullabies album, he thought of a male singer.
Lanny's goal was to model a man being tender, loving, and expressing his emotions, and he found what he was looking for in Gene Miller's voice. Gene Miller's name may not be familiar, but his voice is. Gene Miller is one of the most sought-after vocalists in LA and Nashville. His voice is featured on Lion King II: Simba's Pride and Prince of Egypt: Nashville Sessions, and he has performed live with Paul McCartney, Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx, Donna Summer, and Ray Charles.
Listening to Gene's voice in A Father's Lullabies is incredibly soothing. I tested the album out on my 22-month-old daughter one evening, and she immediately responded to it. During the first song, she sat down near the stereo, and then quietly played in the same spot throughout the first half of the album.
As my daughter sat in the room enjoying the music, my wife and I hung out in the room next to her, listening to Gene's relaxing voice. We both commented on how much we liked listening to the album.
Near the end of the album, my daughter was visibly tired and calm. I turned down the music, swooped her up in my arms, and took her to bed. After I put my daughter down for bed, I returned to the room where my daughter was, and my wife and I enjoyed the rest of the album. Unbeknownst to us, we had become relaxed and tired ourselves -- victims of a father's lullaby.
Dream With Me Tonight, Vol. 2 - A Father's Lullabies is a carefully crafted children's album, that features a beautiful, soothing father-like voice. This album is perfect for parents looking for a simple solution to help their children wind down, and sleep at the end of the day.
