The Stupendous Dodgeball Fiasco is a must read for every pre-teen in the country. Not just because it's a cute story filled with wonderful insight into the lives of circus people, but because it's a book about finding one's own niche in the word, believing one deserves better than life's circumstances, standing up for oneself, and really, it's about standing up for others when they're too afraid to stand up for themselves.

The Stupendous Dodgeball Fiasco starts out with a little boy living in a circus and hating every moment of it. He dreams of a normal life; a life where he could play with other kids and presents that didn't consist of circus themes. But his father, loving the circus like he did, couldn't understand why his son wanted to leave. After much contemplation, Phillip's parents allow him live with his aunt and uncle in a small town—far away from circus life.

As Phillip struggles to find his place in the world and to fit in at school, he's hit with a dodge ball. That dodge ball breaks his glasses, but no one wants to pay for them. So he takes the case to court. In court, he loses his lawyer and decides to represent himself. He does a really poor job of it and just as the case is being decided a mishap with an airplane drops several dodge balls on the citizens of this small town, injuring many. In the end, Phillips wins the case

But the story doesn't end there. Phillip learns some very valuable life lessons. He learns to stand up for himself, he learns to not be ashamed of his parents and what they do for a living, and he finds way to co-exist in both worlds: life inside the circus and outside of the circus. Want to know how he co-exists? You'll have to read the book to find out.
