{"id":377,"date":"2006-07-13T07:45:06","date_gmt":"2006-07-13T13:45:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/?p=377"},"modified":"2006-07-13T07:45:06","modified_gmt":"2006-07-13T13:45:06","slug":"finding-a-reliable-babysitter-the-hardest-task-on-earth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/2006\/07\/13\/finding-a-reliable-babysitter-the-hardest-task-on-earth\/","title":{"rendered":"Finding a Reliable Babysitter: The Hardest Task on Earth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My husband is an artist.\u00a0 Everyone once in awhile we have an opening to go to that we can&#8217;t (won&#8217;t) bring the kids to.\u00a0 There was a day when, with only one kid, we could bring the whole family and all was well.\u00a0 My son would talk calmly walk around the gallery.\u00a0 He knew the rules: no touching, no shouting, no breakdancing near any fragile sculpture.\u00a0 Then we had our daughter.\u00a0 Those of you with two kids know the shocking reality that going from one to two kids is.\u00a0 We can no longer take the whole family anywhere but the park and other uber-kid-friendly places.\u00a0 It is a damn near impossible feat to get them both functionally well-behaved at the same time.\u00a0 In fact, it seems that when one is practicing the utmost self-control and being angelic, that the other feels that that moment is perfect for causing utter chaos.\u00a0 So, see, we have decided that finding a regular babysitter whom we can count on as regularly as the bug man is essential to our future sanity and happiness.<\/p>\n<p>This might seem like an easy task.\u00a0 Not so.\u00a0 I am realizing that one of the only ways to attain babysitter info is from other mothers.\u00a0 It&#8217;s tricky.\u00a0 Some mothers are happy to share everything they know.\u00a0 Some mothers, not so much.\u00a0 I asked a friend of mine if she had a good babysitter to recommend.\u00a0 She said &#8220;Yes, but I&#8217;m not giving her number out &#8211; are you crazy!&#8221;.\u00a0 Believe it or not, I have gotten this response quite often.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like the holy grail of parenting.\u00a0 I swear, I have never seen adults be more covetous of anything in my entire life.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like those who have them are scared to death of losing them and those who don&#8217;t have them would kill to get the information.\u00a0 Bizarre.<\/p>\n<p>But, somehow, we managed to pull through and Saturday night we&#8217;ll actually be going out together, sans children, for the first time in &#8211; geez &#8211; I think, like, over a year???\u00a0 Yeah.\u00a0 I think that&#8217;s about right.\u00a0 Hopefully our babysitting woes are behind us.\u00a0 And, even more so, I hope that when some desperate parent looks me in the eye and asks that threatening question &#8220;Do you have any good babysitters you can recommend?&#8221;, that I&#8217;ll be able to free myself from any instinctive babysitting hording that I might feel and pass along the info with love and willingness.\u00a0 I may have to grit my teeth, but I think I can do it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My husband is an artist.\u00a0 Everyone once in awhile we have an opening to go to that we can&#8217;t (won&#8217;t) bring the kids to.\u00a0 There was a day when, with only one kid, we&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[59],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-377","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-daily-living"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/377","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=377"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/377\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=377"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=377"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=377"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
