{"id":378,"date":"2006-07-14T09:07:29","date_gmt":"2006-07-14T15:07:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/?p=378"},"modified":"2006-07-14T09:07:29","modified_gmt":"2006-07-14T15:07:29","slug":"beauty-queens-princesses-ponies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/2006\/07\/14\/beauty-queens-princesses-ponies\/","title":{"rendered":"Beauty Queens, Princesses &amp; Ponies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Little girls, little girls, little girls.\u00a0 I think I was less shocked when my son began proving the whole nature over nurture theory to me when he started being uber-boy\u00a0than, now, seeing\u00a0my daughter lassoing her absolute girlish nature at barely two years old.\u00a0 Prissy, prissy, prissy.\u00a0 She already wants a pony and is in love with those moronic Disney princesses who have had modern day &#8220;makeovers&#8221; that maintain the facade of being strong, independent women but, realistically, are just looking to hook a man&#8217;s attention\u00a0and get laid.\u00a0 Yuck.\u00a0 Why is it in our nature to be lured by this?\u00a0 She has already mastered fluttering her eyes at any man she sees and has perfected playing coy when they notice how pretty she is.\u00a0 Yuck again.\u00a0 Trust me, she is not learning it from me.\u00a0 Sure, next to my boyish, lesbian friends I am pretty girly &#8211; but that is about how far it goes.\u00a0 I like to think that there is a difference between feminine a being girly.\u00a0 Being feminine implies strength of character and poise.\u00a0 Being girly involves flirting and playing dumb to get your way.\u00a0 A flirt I am not..\u00a0 But wait a minute, my friends say I flirt with everyone\u00a0&#8211; I think I am just being friendly &#8211; but they swear it is flirting.\u00a0 Hold on &#8211; am I inadvertently teaching my daughter to get her way by being cute and flirty just because I like to be nice to people??\u00a0 Can&#8217;t be.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t care what my friends say, I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;m that girl.\u00a0 I have <em>seen<\/em> that girl and have heartily rolled my eyes at her as man after man falls over himself to buy her a drink just because she is hanging out of her top and blinking a lot.\u00a0 I have scoffed loudly when I have heard that girl say &#8220;Oh, I am just so dizzy &#8211; can you help me carry those??&#8221;.. I am not that girl, why is my daughter gleaming with the potential of becoming that girl?\u00a0 Is this that whole mother vs. daughter thing taking root?\u00a0 Or is this just a phase?\u00a0 I mean, she&#8217;s not yet two..
