{"id":394,"date":"2006-08-08T08:37:30","date_gmt":"2006-08-08T14:37:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/?p=394"},"modified":"2006-08-08T08:46:36","modified_gmt":"2006-08-08T14:46:36","slug":"yes-is-the-new-no","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/2006\/08\/08\/yes-is-the-new-no\/","title":{"rendered":"Yes is the New No"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My husband and I are trying a little experiment.\u00a0 First, let me tell you how we came about this decision:<\/p>\n<p>We have become pretty crochety and cranky, my husband and I&#8230; Not so much with each other &#8211; mainly with the kids.\u00a0 I think what started as us feeling like we had to set some ground rules with our son (which was, at the time, very important) kind of grew into this monster of us being nay-sayers to any fun that might be had.\u00a0 I found myself walking around with a sneer most of the day and, when I would catch glimpses of myself in the mirror I felt as if I was looking at <a title=\"baby jane\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0056687\/trailers-screenplay-E27413-10-2\">Bette Davis<\/a> in What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?\u00a0Pale, crazy, hair all mussed &#8211; I just didn&#8217;t wear grouchy well.\u00a0 It was putting us all in quite a nasty little funk.\u00a0 The kids weren&#8217;t having any fun and we certainly weren&#8217;t having any fun.\u00a0 So, this past weekend and yesterday we just made a very pointed decision to freakin&#8217; relax.\u00a0 We had gotten so caught up in being disciplinarians that we forgot that we loved having fun with each other.\u00a0 It took saying yes at times when we would habitually say &#8220;no&#8221; &#8211; you know, those unimportant things like &#8220;can I play in the hose outback?&#8221; or &#8220;can I stay up a little longer?&#8221;&#8230;\u00a0 I don&#8217;t mean instigating a free-for-all..
