{"id":409,"date":"2006-08-31T14:54:05","date_gmt":"2006-08-31T20:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/?p=409"},"modified":"2006-08-31T14:54:05","modified_gmt":"2006-08-31T20:54:05","slug":"shut-yer-pie-hole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/2006\/08\/31\/shut-yer-pie-hole\/","title":{"rendered":"Shut Y&#8217;er Pie Hole"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t know when, or how, I will learn that saying less is better.\u00a0 I am entirely too much at ease with saying exactly what I think.\u00a0 I feel like I am respectful of others, probably to a fault.\u00a0 But I am realizing, as I approach my twenty-ninth year on this planet, a very hard truth:\u00a0 I talk too much.<\/p>\n<p>I feel like I blew it today, thanks to my mouth and my &#8220;opinions&#8221;.\u00a0 Damn them.\u00a0 It is like they have a life of their own.\u00a0 Most people can be the listener and the advice taker &#8211; me, I have to be the talker, the jabbity-jabber.\u00a0 GAWD!\u00a0 I am so mad at myself.<\/p>\n<p>I am talking to the best school in Nashville about getting my son in for next year.\u00a0 We have just had to admit that (at the risk of sounding like every other parent under the sun) our son is, maybe not so much &#8220;gifted&#8221;, as he is complex.\u00a0 He is just not hangin&#8217; in at the public school.\u00a0 He is bored and, quite frankly, has already figured out the teacher&#8217;s m.o. for the year and is ready to conquer it.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t want to see him tread down a path of boredom and destruction so I am looking around to see what our options are for getting him into a school where, hopefully, the other kids will be as &#8220;complex&#8221; and gifted and he very well might be &#8220;average&#8221; (oooooh, how sweet that sounds..).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But, thanks to my gift of gab, I talked the women&#8217;s ear off.\u00a0 I <em>did<\/em> listen.\u00a0 I did.\u00a0 But, I also disagreed with her on some points and, apparently, I should have just nodded and smiled.\u00a0 Now that I think about it, I didn&#8217;t talk too much, I just <em>said<\/em> too much.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a difference in that&#8230; Ok. Wow.\u00a0So, the truth is this: I don&#8217;t talk too much, I just can&#8217;t disagree with someone and not speak up.\u00a0 That&#8217;s my real problem.\u00a0 There I admitted it.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t keep my damned opinions to myself even if my son&#8217;s future academic state depends on it.\u00a0 What is the matter with me!?!?\u00a0 For pete&#8217;s sake.\u00a0 This is nuts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thank goodness we have one more shot for me to make an impression.\u00a0 We have a tour next week of the school.\u00a0 My husband will be there so maybe, just maybe, I will let him take the lead and cool my jets.\u00a0 God.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know if I can do it.\u00a0 Just the thought is making me twitchy.\u00a0 No.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll find a higher power.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll wear a rubber band around my wrist and whenever I feel my loud mouthed opinionated self rearing up, I&#8217;ll just snap my wrist.\u00a0 I have a feeling that I won&#8217;t end up with anything but a bloody wrist, though.\u00a0 Geesh.\u00a0 I&#8217;m hopeless.\u00a0 A lost cause..
