{"id":465,"date":"2006-11-27T23:30:16","date_gmt":"2006-11-28T05:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/?p=465"},"modified":"2006-11-28T09:07:15","modified_gmt":"2006-11-28T15:07:15","slug":"potty-perfect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/2006\/11\/27\/potty-perfect\/","title":{"rendered":"Potty Perfect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s happening!\u00a0 The littlest person in our family is finally making her way to the toilet &#8211; on her own.\u00a0 After months of my inconsistant wanting to try, kind of trying and trying and forgetting to maintain the trying &#8211; she has finally decided that if she is ever going to crap somwhere besides her pants that she has to take matters into her own hands.\u00a0 Thank god.\u00a0 I had no idea, otherwise, how it was going to happen.<\/p>\n<p>So, for the last three days she has been thoroughly dedicated to making every pee and poo in the potty.\u00a0 This morning she actually got mad and a screamed at me because I was so distracted talking to my mother in law on the phone that I didn&#8217;t notice her telling me she had to poop &#8211; and, much to her dismay, did it in her pants.\u00a0 She yelled at me.\u00a0 For a long time.\u00a0 Sometimes I don&#8217;t feel like the parent.<\/p>\n<p>But, it brings me around to how<a title=\"article\" href=\"http:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/parenting\/potty-training\/love-thy-potty-as-thyself-or-get-on-board-the-potty-train\"> I used to feel about the whole potty training thing<\/a> a long time ago.\u00a0 I had some weird notion back then that I actually had control over this <em>thing<\/em> &#8211; this bizarre potty training thing.\u00a0 Ha!\u00a0 What I have come to realize is that, not only do I not have control over <strong>it<\/strong> &#8211; I have, actually, very little control over anything.\u00a0 Sure, I&#8217;d like to write this blog as if I had spent these last few months intently and compassionately helping my daughter learn her first lesson of independence.\u00a0 I would love to take full credit for having two children that were both potty trained by the age of two (my son around 15months and my daughter, at 2, well on her way) but, hell, I really had nothing to do with it.\u00a0 Honestly, the only thing I can take credit for is making them sit in the bathroom with me while I do my own thing and even that was only because I didn&#8217;t want to be interrupted.\u00a0 My point is this:\u00a0 kids will do it when they&#8217;re ready.\u00a0 I know that most of you know this but,\u00a0I guess, I didn&#8217;t.\u00a0 I have just been lucky to have two kids who have taken to it like it was a game.\u00a0 Some people don&#8217;t.\u00a0 I have no clues to give.\u00a0 I have no suggestions to make.\u00a0 I just let them walk around naked a lot and that seems to work.\u00a0 So, for those of you embarking on the potty training journey &#8211; good luck and may all the forces of nature be with you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s happening!\u00a0 The littlest person in our family is finally making her way to the toilet &#8211; on her own.\u00a0 After months of my inconsistant wanting to try, kind of trying and trying and&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[48],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-465","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-potty-training"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/465","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=465"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/465\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=465"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=465"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=465"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
