{"id":467,"date":"2006-11-30T10:57:27","date_gmt":"2006-11-30T16:57:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/?p=467"},"modified":"2006-11-30T13:00:46","modified_gmt":"2006-11-30T19:00:46","slug":"what-is-happening-to-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/2006\/11\/30\/what-is-happening-to-me\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Happening to Me?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A little known fact about me.\u00a0 I once helped liberate fourteen animals from a labratory that was affiliated with a major drugstore chain.\u00a0 It was all very covert and nondestructive.\u00a0 We saved fourteen animals and gave them good homes.\u00a0 I hope I don&#8217;t go to jail for admitting this online.\u00a0 It was many, many years ago and I was very young &#8211; certainly wasn&#8217;t the master mind of the operation.\u00a0 But I went.<\/p>\n<p>My point in divulging any of this to you is because my identity (if you haven&#8217;t noticed from previous blogs) is becoming somewhat illusive to me these days.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t care to be a fist raising activist or someone who is righteously ethical &#8211; though that was an outfit I wore for many years.\u00a0 But, where is the line?\u00a0 How do we creep into being a reasonable adult with a balanced perspective about their lifestyle without entirely becoming a sell out?\u00a0 My fear is that I am not becoming &#8220;balanced&#8221; but lazy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I have started taking long walks in the morning.\u00a0 530am is my target rising time &#8211; though it is hard to get out of bed before 6am.\u00a0 During these long walks alone, I have been thinking.\u00a0 Thinking about my past.\u00a0 Thinking about my present.\u00a0 Obsessively thinking about my future and what kind of person I am turning into.\u00a0 I have also started to think about who I am <em><strong>not<\/strong><\/em> any longer.\u00a0 Everyone around me seems so pleased to know that I have &#8220;loosened up&#8221; &#8211; I eat fish, I wear leather, I had turkey for Thanksgiving, I drive something very similar to a small SUV (alright, it <em>is<\/em> a small SUV..), I let my kids watch TV now (only PBS but, still&#8230;).\u00a0 I am far from a perfectionist &#8211; seriously.\u00a0 I never adhered to a &#8220;no-TV-vegetarian-econocar-driving&#8221; lifestyle because I was a perfectionist about my lifestyle.\u00a0 Admittedly, I did it out of guilt.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t bear having any responsibility for destruction of any kind and, when I had kids, I didn&#8217;t want them to be comfortable living an overindulged, destructive lifestyle either.\u00a0 So, what gives?\u00a0 What switch got flipped in me?\u00a0 Am I being lazy or just figuring out how to work within the constraints of the society around me?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I guess, mostly, I just want to know why I can&#8217;t turn it off.\u00a0 I see all these people, every day, living so simply and easily.\u00a0 They glide through their day,without even an inkling of a thought for their actions and behaviour.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t get me wrong, I don&#8217;t want to be like that, I just want to find a middle ground.\u00a0 Somewhere, there has got to be a middle ground.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A little known fact about me.\u00a0 I once helped liberate fourteen animals from a labratory that was affiliated with a major drugstore chain.\u00a0 It was all very covert and nondestructive.\u00a0 We saved fourteen animals&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[59,4,86],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-467","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-daily-living","category-lifestyles","category-mental-health"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/467","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=467"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/467\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=467"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=467"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.familyresource.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=467"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
