Holy Lesbian Batman!

I kid you not, DC Comics has ordained Batwoman as their new prime minister for the gay and lesbian community.  I heard it on the news yesterday.  It is true, Batwoman will be coming out of the closet as a lesbian.  I don’t think we have seen a homosexual superhero since Green Arrow, no? 

This may break the hearts of 12-year-old boys. Or fascinate them. But in any case, Batwoman is coming out of the closet. D.C. Comics says the superhero will return to the comic pages as a lesbian. She has flowing red hair, knee-high boots and a tight black outfit. But an editor says she needed a “more unique personality.” The company wants more diversity, though a critic on the Web says if they really wanted diversity, they’d make a superhero ugly.

I don’t know what the reasoning is for DC Comics (I’m sure more “diversity” means more money – god listen to me, all skeptical these days) but I for one think it’s a hoot.  I am sure the GLBT community is thrilled to have Batwoman on their side and, I for one, can’t wait for the story to unfold.
